Allergy & Asthma Research Associates

Research Summary
Allergy and Asthma Research Associates emphasizes clinical research in asthma, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, nonallergic rhinitis, and skin problems such as hives (urticaria) and eczema. Most of our research is supported by pharmaceutical companies developing new treatments for those illnesses above.

In recent years, our research activity has employed two to four full time research coordinators who facilitate approximately 15 separate studies involving about 300 study subjects annually. Since 1989, we have successfully completed over 130 phase II-IV clinical trials. Sponsoring institutions have included Abbott Laboratories, Altana, AstraZeneca, Aventis, Genentech, Glaxo SmithKline, Hoffmann LaRoche, Merck, Novartis, Sepracor, and Schering Plough Research Institute.

Typically these research studies last for 4 to 18 weeks and some patients are studied for a year on new allergy and asthma products.

Benefits of being a study subject include:

  • A comprehensive evaluation at no cost to them
  • Free study medication for their problem being studied, comprehensive and expert care for their problem for the duration of the study,
  • A stipend in recognition of their time spent that usually is $30 to $125 for each of 4 to 12 visits.

A comprehensive education process occurs before enrolling in a study so the subject knows exactly what to expect. The candidate patient then gives written informed consent after all questions are answered. All research is strictly regulated by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Current studies enrolling patients concern asthma research and allergy research of nose and eyes in adults and children.
